Context: A solution to getting course materials to students without printing or emailing them an attachment. In the past, emails have bounced or have not been deliverable because of the large size of an email attachment.

Solution: Class resources can be uploaded to our secure server where students can go to a URL and download them. They can view them electronically and print them out if they desire.

Types of course materials: Word documents, PowerPoint slides, Excel files, and .jpg or .png files - any file type that can be converted to a .pdf. Videos cannot be part of this process.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. In order to optimize the size of the file, it needs to be converted to a .pdf document.

    1. Open the document in its application (Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, etc.)

    2. Click on File → Print

    3. For Printer choose Adobe PDF → then click Print

d. Name the file something simple with no spaces, only dashes, in between words. This name will be in the URL that will be generated.

2. Open a task through the help desk

a. Choose the General category → Class Resources

b. Upload the .pdf file you created.

3. The IS&T group will upload your file to the server. The name of the URL will be: https://continue.utah.edu/dl/your-file-name.pdf
