Professional Development

Professional Development Requests

University Connected Learning (UCL) strives to ensure that each employee has the skills necessary to perform their duties in the best interest of the University

You will be encouraged to pursue self-enrichment training opportunities, which benefit the University and will be funded by UCL. Professional development should be planned by each employee with input from their supervisor and should support departmental and University goals. To that end, each staff member's professional development activities should be referenced in the departmental section of the UCL budget and be included as part of their individual performance evaluation.

Professional development opportunities are budgeted each year and employees should discuss their wishes for the upcoming fiscal year with their managers during budget development. Decisions are made within each UCL unit and if central funding is needed to supplement unit-budgeted professional development, the senior director may take the request to the senior leadership team for approval. Planning ahead is key, but exceptions can be made for unique opportunities.

Your supervisor and administration will review your request and check to make sure there is budget to cover the expense of your request. Those who are presenting at a conference will be given priority to attend.
