Salesforce - Com-Com Emails

Com-Com, short for Communication Component, is a custom tool built for UCL. Com-Com allows you to send emails to all of the currently enrolled students in a Course Offering.

Unlike the standard email component within Salesforce that can be used on most pages, Com-Com can only be used in relation to Course Offerings. You will find this component on the right side of your Course Offering page, next to Activity and Chatter.

The To field is auto-filled from the currently enrolled students. You will not be able to change the recipients of any email sent using the Com-Com. To confirm the student list and look at any additional contact information on file for the enrolled students, you can view the Course Connection list.

This list includes both currently enrolled and previously enrolled students. Only the currently enrolled students will be included in the Com-Com recipient list. As with the standard email component, Salesforce will pull the preferred email on file.

The From field must be selected from the email addresses on file. Ensure that you select the email address suited to your purpose. Any responses to the email sent through Com-Com will be to the indicated sender address. If you need to connect those emails back into Salesforce, you can use the Outlook Integration with Salesforce to do so.

As with any other email, you will need to enter a subject and a body to your email. The rich text editor, link functionality, and attachments are the same as you will find in the standard component.

While you will have a limited number of templates available within Com-Com, these template options will be expanding over time

Here are some additional information about emailing from Salesforce:

As a custom tool, functionality will continue to expand over time as use-cases and resources allow. If you have a particular use you would like to discuss, please submit a project request and the Systems team will be in touch with you.

Known enhancements to be developed

  • Expansion of templates available in Com-Com

  • Emails with mergeable schedule-specific information

  • Editability of templates within Com-Com

  • Permission-based access to different email addresses
